China and Africa share a long history and profound tradition in agricultural cooperation. Traditional aid-based agricultural cooperation has played an important role in the development of friendly economic and trade relations between China and African countries.
In recent years, the Chinese government has paid more attention to food security in Africa and strengthened agricultural cooperation with African countries. As of June 2011, the Chinese government had assisted Africa with more than 100 agricultural projects, established agricultural technology demonstration centers in 14 African countries, dispatched hundreds of agricultural experts to Africa and trained a large number of local agricultural technicians.
After the Reform and Opening-up, China started to encourage enterprises to “go out” and make market-oriented agricultural investment in Africa. As a developing county, China fully understands the concerns of African countries for food security and is very sympathetic toward African countries that face difficulties in food security.
In the future, China will continue to spare no efforts helping African countries develop agriculture and improve food security.

Chinese spokesman rebukes US-Australian military alliance

BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) — A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman on Wednesday criticized the United States’ decision to strengthen its military alliance with Australia.
During US President Barack Obama’s visit to Australia earlier this month, the two states agreed to increase joint military initiatives in order to enhance their alliance.
“Any consolidation or expansion of a military alliance that was forged in history is of the Cold-War model,” said Spokesman Geng Yansheng at a monthly press briefing.
Moves that run contrast to the current trend of peace and cooperation are not helpful in building mutual trust and cooperation among regional countries and will damage their common interests, he said.
Any other military theory aimed at provoking confrontation and safeguarding one’s security at the price of another’s is also backward-thinking, he said.
